Project Mirrors & Windows is a newly minted, progressive organization whose leading objective is to promote child literacy by providing high quality multicultural children's books to all children. Our goal is to increase the volume of "mirror" and "window" books upon the shelves of every public, school, and classroom library.
Why multicultural books?

Along with visualizing, summarizing, inferring, synthesizing, and asking questions, proficient readers make connections to what they are reading.

Children of color have a text connection disadvantage compared to white children due to the high volume of children's literature written by white authors about white people.

Multicultural children's books allow young readers to have fulfilling reading experiences; readers simultenously relate to the characters within the story while asserting their personal identity.

Multicultural literature fosters identity development; children envision the future and the possibilities it may bring as they see people who look like they do accomplish many great things.
